"And by hiding that truth, for weeks or months, Jon & Kate Plus 8 let down its faithful brand advocates."

- Interesting point, but if they had been so "let down" then why is "he current fifth season of the reality show . . . the most popular in the show’s history, with the premier show drawing nearly 10 million viewers"?

Truth be told, I hold "reality" shows to a much lower standard than traditional brands. Perhaps it's because I don't watch Jon & Kate Plus 8 (or much else from this genre), but I'm not sure if withholding this type of information will hurt their brand in the long run, if the show even remains on-air. Instead, I think it fuels interest and gossip, spreading the brand, for good or for ill, via word-of-mouth and blogs. I for one found out about the show only because of recent events and not because I was a loyal viewer. I suppose time will tell-- certainly hope that the kids are ok throughout it all.
