I certainly agree that Norelco has the edge (so to speak) and might gain some ground against Gillette as they try to up-price their franchise.

Gillette seems so caught up with the technology and the masculine angle that they are drifting away from the consumer end benefit. Is irritation really a big enough justification to launch a five-bladed razor?

Marketers assume that if they've done something successfully five times, the sixth will be easy. But many systems have a breaking point - a discrete point at which everything changes all at once. The question is whether we're getting there with razor blade pricing and whether Norelco can capitalize on this.

Either way, the Norelco spot was brilliant. Thanks for the U.K. link.

Dear David,

I read your posts on the Norelco ad with the 15 blades a few months ago. Now that I see this Fusion ad I cannot help but wonder if Gillette is being 'out-Gilletted' by Norelco. In the UK the spoof went even further: www.quintippio.co.uk
To me the Gillette ads are always so stereotypical, leaving me feel misunderstood as a person. Norelco are a lot more focussed on the person using the product. Norelco are talking about the benfits of a better skin rather than a feature extra blade. After all an edditional balde isn't adding any value, I want a result.

What do you think?
