I like the campaign, but only because Reebok is the Avis of the tennis shoe industry.

A lot of Americans who feel dwarfed by the uber-athletic superstars with six-pack abs and toned everything might pick up on this one. A lot of Americans (18-24) exercise for two reasons. 1) For health. 2) As a social outlet.

There is an entire exericse sub-culture out there that really hasn't been tapped into in lieu of focusing on the "everyone's a superstar" POV.

I sometimes run for exercise. I make ads for a living, and have worked on two major running brands. I have to say, nothing about this campaign makes sense to me. Even if I am a lazy couch potato, I at least want something - anything - to aspire to. I don't need a mirror to be held up to me. Otherwise I ask, "So what?" I expect a running shoe company to sound like a motivator, a trainer, or at least a running partner pushing me...not to be a friend who says "Ah, just take it easy man."

As a social runner, I appreciate this ad and like how it pokes fun at brands and campaigns that assume everyone is out doing marathons and competing. However, since the product isn't better suited for casual exercise, why not go with the brand more professionals pick?
